CCTV released after ‘plumber’ stole £1,000 from vulnerable woman
A man who claimed to be a plumber stole over £ 1,000 from an elderly woman in a town in Nottinghamshire.
The man called the victim’s home in Stapleford to check her water heater and took money before he left.
Officers have now released a number of camera images to aid in their investigation and urge the public to be vigilant.
Researcher Martin Prentice, explains Nottinghamshire Police, said, “The man knocked on the vulnerable woman’s door and explained how he was checking a boiler in a house and how to check her boiler too.
She trusted him and let him into her house. He distracted her by asking her to turn the taps on and off.
About £ 400 was taken from her purse, meanwhile over £ 1,000, and a gold chain was also taken from a drawer in her bedroom.
“I would also urge other people in the area – especially those who are vulnerable – not to open the door to someone calling unannounced, especially someone claiming to be a worker.
“No reputable workman or engineer would call this way, so please don’t allow them into your house. If you are concerned about anyone, call the police as soon as possible.
“We are asking anyone who has information if they were in the Hillfield Road area around 2:15 PM on April 6, 2021 to assist with our questions.
“If you recognize the man in the photo, please contact us. We would like to speak to him regarding the incident. If you can help, please call 101, quoting incident 341 of April 6, 2021.”
