Ultra-configurable unit now also includes precise temperature control and adaptive cooling technology
MINNEAPOLIS, May 11, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Daikin Applied today announced updates to its Rebel Applied ™ packaged rooftop HVAC system, known for its industry-leading airflow and efficiency ratings and compact footprint. Rebel Applied now comes with inverter scroll compressors, precise temperature and humidity control and adaptive cooling technology, increasing the power to provide unparalleled energy efficiency and improved indoor comfort.
Powered by Daikin’s inverter technology, these new features enhance Rebel Applied’s already best-in-class efficiency. Unlike staged compressors that operate at fixed points, inverter technology continuously modulates compressor and cooling capacity from 100 percent to 15 percent, allowing the system to respond dynamically to the load of a building. This means constant temperature and humidity control, which helps reduce energy consumption and operating costs and increases the comfort of the residents.
By continuously adapting to building loads, Rebel Applied uses less energy at part load to achieve an Integrated Energy Efficiency Rating (IEER) of up to 20, more than 40 percent above the ASHRAE 90.1 Building Energy Standard. In addition, engineers and building owners can choose a lead circuit or dual circuit inverter compressor based on their efficiency and performance goals – an industry first.
“With precise temperature and humidity control, Rebel Applied creates an ideal environment for occupants to operate at their most productive levels,” said Matthew Dodds, Applied Rooftop Product Manager, Daikin Applied Americas. “At the same time, facility managers can optimize energy consumption and deliver savings on the bottom line. In addition, the compact footprint and fully configurable housing make Rebel Applied the right choice for any new construction or retrofit application.”
The addition of adaptive refrigerant control also allows Rebel Applied to intelligently manage refrigeration cycles to keep the system running online and safely. On the hottest days or when the load is at its highest, the adaptive controls monitor refrigerant entry and exit conditions and adjust the compressor and expansion valves to avoid overloads and nuisance shutdowns. The supporting Microtech controller gives users the ability to also monitor the system in real time and control cooling performance to improve operation during extreme weather or occupancy events.
In addition to the latest features, Rebel Applied is equipped with several Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) technologies available as factory installed options, including: UV lamps to kill pathogens and prevent microbes from living in the unit, highly efficient for – and final filtration to capture more contaminants and humidification grids that help create ideal building environments.
“We are more attuned than ever to buildings and interior spaces,” said Dodds. “IAQ improvements and precise controls that deliver high quality air and provide greater peace of mind and comfort are essential.”
