Jury awards Florida woman $48M for sickness caused by mold
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Florida jury awarded a woman $ 48 million after a leaky roof resulted in mold contamination of her apartment, causing her debilitating illness.
It all started in 2015 when 56-year-old Lynette Jividen moved into an apartment complex. The roof was already leaking and showing mold. Jividen took off just after Hurricane Irma.
However, her lawyers said the fungus continued to cause Jividen health problems. The SunSentinel in South Florida reports that she has been diagnosed with chronic inflammatory response syndrome, which can affect all parts of the body.
The lawsuit she filed was against the owner of the building, the complex management company and a roofing company. All have resolved the case, with the exception of the roofing company, which defaulted on the lawsuit.

Jividen’s lawyers must now go after insurance companies to comply with the verdict.
