He has now turned the hidden basement into a toilet for his friends and family to use when they come over and spend time in the garden

“My shovel went right through the ground into a void and my father-in-law came over and we discovered the old wooden roof and stone staircase.
“My father-in-law David suggested we keep digging – I didn’t like it very much, but I was so glad I listened to him.
“It took us a few days to dig it out and carry all the soil and rocks out by hand.
“I thought it was an old basement of an old house that had been torn down, but I’ve been in touch with people who said it looked like an old bunker.

Sam first found the underground basement in 2019 and immediately set to work turning it into a toilet

He said: ‘I built it with most of the materials we excavated, so in total it only cost about £1,000 to build, but it was well worth it’
“I’m a plumber, so it made sense to make the most of the space and turn it into a toilet.
‘I have a nice big yard and a man cave bar so it’s good for entertainment and this way my friends don’t have to use the house!
