The Prescott Valley Police Department is warning the public of a potential roofing scam in the area. A resident called police around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday and said they received a call from a person claiming to be from a local roofing company. He discussed the resident and then made his own appointment to come to the home to inspect their roof for damage. The resident tried to call the number back, but the connection was lost. The resident then called the police to report the suspect. Police conducted additional follow-up with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors, and the registrars were unable to verify the company’s existence. The Arizona Registrar of Contractors recommends that residents obtain the contractor’s license number to verify that they are actually registered and in good standing.
