Välinge commits to FSC certification

FSC certification Valinge InnovationViken, Sweden – Välinge Innovation has shared new information about its sustainability mission and its FSC-certified Välinge Flooring products. Välinge said the FSC certification was an important milestone in its sustainability goals – she worked closely with the FSC to adapt its production and working methods to meet the Forest Stewardship Council’s high standards.

“We are continuously working to reduce our environmental footprint and achieving FSC certification was an important part of our sustainability strategy,” said Pär Jönsson, supply chain manager, Välinge Innovation. “The FSC is a demanding standard with strict regulations, which means it is a solid certification and a seal of quality for our customers. We built and modified our operation to meet the criteria for receiving the FSC label, and when we received the certification in 2018, we couldn’t have been happier. “

The goal of the FSC is to protect the planet’s forests for future generations and is a strong defender of the amended Lacey Act in the US, which aims to outlaw the illegal trade in timber – aspects critical to the United Välinge, the company said. . The FSC certification is periodically reviewed – just like an ISO certification – to ensure that the sustainability and accountability standards introduced in the certification process become a regular part of the company’s working practices, and something Välinge said it sees it as a foundation on which to build, rather than the culmination of its environmental mission.

“It is incredibly important to us that the raw materials in our products come from legal and sustainable forest management and that the workers in those forests and factories are treated fairly,” said Jönsson. “For example, a large percentage of our high-quality oak veneer used in our Woodura surface technology comes from the forests of our sister company in Croatia. We notice that our customers demand the same traceability. It is really positive that people are involved and want to know where the wood comes from and what impact it has on the local population and on the planet. “

According to Välinge, the state-of-the-art, high-volume production facility at the headquarters here has an annual capacity of more than 64 million square feet of floor covering – produced with the patented Woodura and Nadura surface technology. All of its products carry the FSC label, the company said.
